An Update from Logan Theater

I come with good news for Logan Square residents. I just want to let those who have been nervous about the renovations at Logan Theater that they can let out the proverbial sigh of relief - Logan Theater is not going be a modern multiplex showing the latest 3D movies. I received a message from Shaylah, the theater’s marketing director, about what they have planned for the theater. And if you haven’t “liked” Logan Theater yet on Facebook, go ahead and do that (Shaylah updates the FB page daily).

For the most part, the Logan will re-emerge as the same theatre it was before we closed – showing mid-run movies, with the occasional less-known indie.  It is our hope to bring cult favorites and classics to the Logan on a more regular basis, a la the ‘Late Night at the Logan’ series we did during the Milwaukee Avenue Art Fest last summer. Much of the future will be dependent on the studios, and what movies we’re able to get. Such is the nature of the movie business. We also have a real interest in hosting Chicago film festivals and showing the work of local filmmakers. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we’re always open for ideas, and we’re deeply committed to unique, exceptional programming as we move forward.

The live comedy in the lounge idea was just that, an idea.  I think it would be a great success, despite some naysayers’ opinions.  I think we’ll let things develop on an organic level. If there’s an idea that comes our way that we think sounds fun, we might try it and see how the community responds to it. One thing’s for sure: we’ll always show movies! And once people see the bar and lounge, I think it’s going to be a new favorite drinking destination in the neighborhood.

The theater is still on track for a late January - early February reopening. Until then, you can find photo updates on the theater’s Facebook page. Here’s some photos of the renovation.
