photo by Maria Surawska I haven’t updated in a couple of months, and instead of letting the blog slip away into the nether regions of the virtual world without a final post, I decided that it would be best to have some closure as to why I’m calling it quits. I started this blog in November 2011 for a few reasons. The main reason was that I...

Best of Foursquare Chicago edition
Restaurants and bars in Logan Square have completely dominated recent editor’s picks from the Tribune to the Reader. Foursquare recently released their “Best of Foursquare” and to no surprise, the list is yet again littered with Logan Square establishments. See the...
CTA Ridership at highest levels in decades
According to recent reports, CTA ridership is at its highest levels in 22 years. This is generally a good sign. It means that more people are turning to public transit for their daily commutes and weekend adventures, and leaving the car at home (despite the Mayor telling the general public that they can “choose” to drive if they don’t want to deal with the recent fare hikes). The...

Car Carnage in Logan Square
The last couple of weeks of 2012 brought us unusually warm weather, but it also was a period where there were a couple of fairly high profile vehicle accidents in Logan Square. The bus crash at Kedzie and Diversey injured two people, and the police officer driving the flipped SUV (photos below) was also injured. Logan Square resident and photographer Paul Callan was present for both and snapped...

Dive bar tipping ettiquette
Every other week a new cocktail bar announces that they will be opening up in Logan Square. Logan really is the hotbed of new, trendy, and often times pricey bars. However, there’s still quite a few old school dive bars hanging on. Many of the dives in the area have updated their look, added a few TVs, or upped their prices, but a select few have not changed likely for decades. Here’s...

Funny Yelp Review of Cole's Bar
Yelpers are quite the opinionated bunch. Even the term “Yelper” conjures a sense of pretentiousness. Mix together internet reviewers and neighborhood stereotypes, and you’ll see the term “hipster” casually litered across reviews of many Logan Square establishments. Enter Yelper, Caitlin G. who is frustrated with this patronizing of Chicago neighborhoods and produced...
